On 7 October 2024, the pro-Russian hacktivist group NoName057(16) launched a DDoS campaign against Belgian websites, explicitly targeting ports and local authorities. A list of targets published on the group’s Telegram channel included the ports of Antwerp and Zeebrugge, whose public websites experienced outages as servers were overwhelmed with malicious traffic. The Centre for Cybersecurity Belgium described the incident as a Distributed Denial-of-Service attack and stressed that it posed no danger to critical systems. Port operations continued, but public access to information and services was temporarily disrupted. The attack was motivated by Belgium’s support for Ukraine and formed part of a wider NoName057(16) campaign against European government and transport-sector sites, highlighting ongoing hacktivist pressure on maritime-facing web infrastructure in EU member states.
